PAFSS KitchenGuard®

The PAFSS KitchenGuard Fire Suppression System detect automatically at the source of a fire and extinguish it early and before it more fully develops, minimising the damage of valuable assets and enabling a quicker recovery of operations.

Developed specifically for ‘F class’ category fires.

*** The PAFSS KitchenGuard range of systems is our Company recommendation for kitchen fire suppression.

Our IPH Engineers are highly qualified and very experienced in Designing, Installing and Servicing this reliable system.

How does it work?

The PAFSS KitchenGuard System uses a linear method of detection which requires no mechanical processes or power to function. The pressurised detection tubing is how the system operates which means there is less to go wrong than in other systems on the market that require mechanical actuation to function.

Wet chemical forms a thick soapy foam like blanket over burning oil, in a process called saponification. This stops oxygen from reaching the fire therefore removing this element from the fire triangle.

The PAFSS KitchenGuard Solution

Investment in a KitchenGuard system can help safeguard your valuable assets and staff against the risk and impact of fire at your premises.

The PAFSS system offers peace of mind for customers looking to specify a fully tested, approved and certified solution for fire protection of their kitchen and catering equipment. It incorporates many innovative features, to bring ground-breaking characteristics and reliability to anyone with responsibility for kitchen fire suppression.

With kitchen fires being difficult to contain and control, KitchenGuard has been specifically designed to protect catering equipment in accordance with LPS1223:

“Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB certification and listing of fixed fire extinguishing systems for catering equipment.”

What are my key considerations when looking for a kitchen suppression system to safeguard staff, work space and property?

Responsive

Like any fire scenario, kitchen fires need to be dealt with quickly before they can develop and cause further, more significant damage.

KitchenGuard is fast acting both in detection and system actuation.

Linear pressurised detection tubing detects the fire, which melts and bursts when exposed to prolonged flame or heat to activate the system.

This drop in pressure opens the cylinder valve, releasing the extinguishing agent through stainless steel pipework and nozzles onto the hazard areas.

Reliable

Reliability is key. You want a system you can trust to work when you need it to.

KitchenGuard detection tubing is unaffected by oil, dirt and kitchen grease which can cause delay in activation on other systems.

All discharge pipework, fittings and nozzles are stainless steel, vital in potentially corrosive environments as well as complementing the kitchen environment.

KitchenGuard does not require any mechanical movement or electrical signal to detect and activate.

Ready

On guard 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, PAFSS KitchenGuard will be ready if and when it is needed.

KitchenGuard is a self contained system that requires no power supply for the detection of fire and for the activation of the system.

In case of any power outage to the building KitchenGuard will remain operational at all times.

The health of the system is easy to check with simple visible pressure gauge monitoring.

Kitchen Fires are caused by a variety of risk factors, but they generally fall into the following categories:

People’s Actions

  • In today’s busy kitchen environments speed is all important. Consequently, accidental fires can start much easier.
  • Unattended devices.

Equipment

  • Poorly maintained equipment with defective / damaged heating controls.
  • Electric fryers may be sealed, to protect the electrical control components inside from the cooking oil but can still leak.

Cleanliness of Appliances

  • In many cases, only what can be seen is cleaned.
  • During your next inspection examine the back or innards of appliances with a torch, see what you find!
How often must KitchenGuard be serviced?

Similar to other systems, KitchenGuard requires a basic service every year, an extended service at 4 years and an overhaul at 8 years.

(servicing must be done by an approved installer).

What are the sizes of the system?

KitchenGuard has 2 cylinder sizes. A 12L cylinder that can run 6 nozzles & an 8L cylinder that can run 4 nozzles.

Up to 3 of these modules can be connected together to provide larger coverage if needed

What temperature does the tube burst at?

170ºC

Can the system be refilled?

Yes, by an approved installer, contact IPH Fire Solutions if your system requires servicing or refilled.

What is the material in the system?

KitchenGuard uses ‘wet chemical’ specifically designed for suppression and extinguishing of deep fat, F class fires.

Is it messy to clean up?

KitchenGuard uses a 99.9% biodegradable material that is kind to the environment and easy to clean up using conventional cleaning materials.

How long does it take to install?

Depends on the Kitchen…speak to one of our dedicated engineers for a free no obligation consultation.

Is KitchenGuard certified?

Yes, KitchenGuard is certified by LPCB to LPS1223.

Does it need power to work?

No, KitchenGuard is pneumatically actuated which means that as long as the system is pressurised and installed correctly it will function.

Key Benefits:

Simple, high quality and well-engineered system, which is quick and unobtrusive to install.

Fast, automatic actuation.
